A Mansion in the Bronx

Does anyone remember the Shuttleworth Mansion on the corner of Mount Hope Place and Anthony Avenue? I lived in the area for 30 years and walked past this house hundreds of times and never saw anyone go in or come out.

The front and side yards were always overgrown with weeds, trees and bushes. PS 28 is across the street and extends down to East Tremont Avenue. We often played "off the point" against the school building and sometimes our ball would fly over the wrought iron fence that surrounded the house. No one dared to climb over it to get our ball back, as we didn't know if the house was occupied or not.

The house and school are still there and are almost 130 years old.
