Did your family discuss politics? Return to topicsPost to this topic

Please don't discuss parties..........or today's politics.

My family got together for holidays and we had no reason to discuss politics because
we were all of the same party.

Now that I'm old, my sister changed parties. Made me surprised and sad but we
agreed not to discuss politics at all.

I don't remember my family ever discussing politics except when they knew some local Bronx politician, in which case he was either "a jerk" or "a dope." My parents had no use for any of it. In 6th grade in 1960, we had a student debate to mimic the presidential debate. It was pretty obvious that all the kids just said whatever they heard at home, and JFK was pretty popular among most Catholic families.

My dad and uncles did but they were always on the same page so there was never any discord except for an occasional minor disagreement.

My grandfather was a Communist (although by the time he died, he may not have been an actual member), and there was sort of an agreement that he wouldn't discuss communism with my parents, my brother and me.
