I don't know where that playground was, but seeing the sandbox brought back so many memories. Also, the note about the "parkie" made me laugh. Forgot about that too.

The playground is like a hundred others, but the building in the background looks pretty serious, like a prison or a reformatory. Could it be Spofford?

There is what appears to be a hi rise building to the letting the background. I don't think it is a NYC Housing Authority building. Looks like a building along the Bruckner Expressway N/B near where the old Korvetts used to be. I believe that would be the Castle Hill area.

It's not Spofford, but there was a playground on Baretto St so maybe that's the Corpus Christie monastery in the background.

Yeah, Marv, good find. I got the marching clue and figured it out. I don't know what it was called then but now it's Stars & Stripes Playground on Baychester Ave.
