Apartments Again Return to topicsPost to this topic

I often wondered how many families lived in my apartment over the past 95 years or so since it was built. How many births, weddings Communion, Confirmation celebrations which occurred in the very apartment you grew up in. Family Holiday gatherings such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years. How many other friends, neighbors and family gatherings both happy and sad and other events took place there. ("If walls could talk as it were".)
I realize my time spanned only a relatively small 20-year slot from the mid 1950's until the mid 1970's. As a 70+ "oldtimer" It would be interesting to know who came before and those who came after.

Great thought John. I'm sure a compilation of the stories of all the tenants who occupied a given apartment would certainly make for a great book.

You can go to the US census records and research the names & details of all who resided in any house or building you wish. The Bronx apartment building I grew up in was built in 1930, but is not reflected in the '30 census as the survey was completed before the building was ready for occupancy. I have since obtained the 1940 and 1950 census, and see names and families I recall in both! The 1960 census will not be available until April of 2032, if I am doing the math correctly! That is another 8 years to go! I really would love to see that one, as not many people in my building came & went during the 60's.
