Ed Kranepool Return to topicsPost to this topic

Mets' first basement Ed Kranepool passed away last week at age 79. He joined the team in their inaugural 1962 season and spent his entire 18 year career as a Met, longer than any other player. Given the state of the sport today, I'm confident this record will never be broken. He came out of James Monroe High School where he broke Hank Greenberg's single-season home run record. He homered in the Met's 1969 Miracle World Series. We were all avid fans of our Bronx boy.

Wow very interesting. There should be a street named after him.

I e-mailed Mike Vaccaro sportswriter for the NY Post that the Mets should retire Ed Kranepool's #7 and Bud Harrelson's #3 next summer at Citi Field.

Naming a Pool after him would be more befitting.
