As a Mets fan growing up in the Bronx I've had my share of ridicule by Yankee fans. Deservedly so being that the Yankees are MLB Royalty. Personally I don't focus on the so called rivalry simply because it's not a true measure of competition based on both teams being in different leagues which puts me in the unique position to root for the Yankees when they play NL East teams. My solution to this is have both teams play in the same division. Then we'll have a genuine rivalry with both teams fighting each other to GET to the world series. Similar to the Dodger/Giant rivalry of yesteryear. I wasn't around back then but I can only imagine the competiton between the teams and their fans to earn the right to play the Yankees in October. Would love to hear from those who experienced it.

I hear you. My dad was a Brooklyn Dodger fan before "dem bums" broke his heart in 1957. He became a Mets fan from day one. I was nine when the Mets debuted at the Polo Grounds in 1962. Every kid in my Bronx neighborhood was a Yankee fan. Their scratchy sounding transistor radios blaring Phil Rizzuto's "holy cow!" all over the street. I have to admit my only favorite Yankee at the time was Joe Pepitone.
#25 was a good 1st baseman.
I was pissed off in the 2000 World series when the Yankees beat Bobby V's Mets in five. Lost a few hundred$$$ to boot.
