I used to live a few blocks away from that corner. That old spot was just a tiny fill-up station. Most likely, the city will not permit a new station there due to the limited space for traffic, the adjacent bus lane and bus stop, sidewalk access, etc. Also, fuel supply companies rely on extra-service facilities other than gas for profit, and this little spot has no room for that.

There was a gas station on the north east corner of University about 50 feet north of Burnside Avenue right next to the Aqueduct. It seems to be abandoned for the last 30 years. Seems like an ideal location for a gas station cause the nearest one used to be at Fordham Road & the Deegan before it shut down in recent years making Bailey Avenue & 230th street the nearest gas station. Unless the property is tied up in litigation I can't see why the city wouldn't sell the property. A gas station at Burnside & University Would serve car owners gas needs in the neighborhood very well.
