Some other jobs I had which weren't too successful.

Fruit stand on 180th street & Mohegan Ave. 12 years old. 1st day on job. Customer comes in wants 10 lbs of potatoes. Grabbed a bunch of potatoes and put them on the hanging scale. Scale says 35 lbs of potatoes. Owner didn't like that. First and Last day on job.

Busboy employee in restaurant near the lion house for a day in Bronx Park. Chosen at the beginning of day from 300 children who were corralled in a nearby Bronx Park courtyard. I was one of the lucky ones. Pushing the cart overflowing with dishes and it overturned. P.S. Last day on job.

Delivered the New York Post to the tenement buildings near East 179th st everyday in the 1950s. Highlight was placing them in a shopping cart and sometimes walking up to the 6th floor for a delivery.

Delivering meat packages via bicycle from a butcher store near Tremont Ave & Southern blvd. Pretty heavy when walking it up to the 6th floor. Got 25 cents per package from the butcher and usually 10 cent tip from the customers

I was eleven or twelve and was responsible for five children. Two actually lived next door. It was only for 2 1/2 hrs daily and I got $5.00 a week. I'd bring them into the apartment from next door until their mothers came home from work.
