Passover without the Zoo Return to topicsPost to this topic

I was waiting for a friend in the city (Manhattan) in front of a Duane Reede drugstore. I had
time, so I decided to pick up some Passover cards. Went in. Found many, many Easter cards, but no Passover cards. Called over the clerk and asked where they were. She said, "follow me" ... she took me to the sympathy card section.....here she said "passed over" !!!
Yes, I did complain to the manager.

P.S. What does this have to do with the Bronx, you ask. Well, Passover for me was celebrated at my grandparents tiny three room apartment on Grand Avenue. Somehow she fit 15 of us around a long table and a bridge table (for us kids)..........everyone has passed except two cousins and my sister. We played
Michigan rummy at the end of dinner..........didn't talk politics because we all voted the same......very much to the left.........I long to bring back just one of those days.......I miss everyone so much.

This dealt with feeding the elephants at the BRONX ZOO and what I did when I was 8-11 years old before Passover and my living close to the zoo

You must have had a wonderful childhood. It certainly helped you to become the person you are today.

About 25 years ago I took my daughter and a friend's daughter on a road trip to Florida during Passover and had promised my friend I would make sure her daughter followed the custom of eating no leavened bread while we were there. On the way, we stopped at a market for lunch and I asked the clerk, "Do you have anything for Passover?" His response was, "I don't know. What are the symptoms?"

In "The Cocoanuts," Chico Marx and Groucho are trading comic lines. Groucho, describing a Florida property he's trying to sell, said, "and here are the leveees." Chico says, "That must-a be the Jewish neighborhood." Groucho says, "We'll just pass over that."
