GOOD HUMOR ICE CREAM Return to topicsPost to this topic

Does anyone remember getting the Good Humor ice cream from a guy on a tricycle with a freezer box in the front instead of the small white plain box-shaped truck.

BUNGALOW BAR [the more you ate it, the sicker you are] ice cream truck also was box-shaped, but had the addition of shingles at the top & small portion of a white fence at the front, on the side opposite from where the driver would sit

The tricycle Good Humor vendor was almost always at Bronx Park east, at the entrance to the park.

Saul, I was one of the guys who drove the ice cream truck/tricycle one summer.
I learned a couple of things: 1. the good routes go to the experienced guys. They had me tucked off on a quiet street somewhere where there was virtually no business. 2. the bells drove you nuts as you pedaled along; luckily, there was a way to lock the bell bar so it wouldn't ring. The biggest seller: Chocolate Cake ice cream, along with the perrenial favourite,'toasted almond.'

Remember it well....always in Parkchester when I visited my aunt.
