Anyone familiar with classical music may recognize the name Jerome Ashby.Jerome lived in the building across the street from me which was 1931 Harrison Avenue. We would see Jerome coming home from the Juliard school of music late in the afternoon carrying a cumbersome musical instrument in a case which was a French Horn with his mom. Jerome was another regular kid and played all the street games everyone else played at the time. Many years later Jerome would go on to become a world renowned French Horn musician with the N.Y. Philharmonic. Unfortunately in his biography there is no acknowledgement of his humble Bronx roo ts. This would make it difficult to get a street or the building he grew up in co named for him. Jerome passed away at a young age from cancer but certainly left an impression on the world and made The Bronx proud.
