Mom Sylvia cashed in her savings bonds and bought a 51 Chevy Bel-Air brand new. I think Dad got to drive it a few times. We went to Bear Mt, New Rochelle, Armonk, where we always got great jams from a roadside stand, and then some place where she made a panic stop and I kissed the unforgiving dashboard and screamed bloody murder. Mom eventually sold it because it was just as easy to get around in NYC without a car. And Sadly, some things do no go unnoticed by little kids. A fraction of what she spent on that car could have purchased a beautiful Macy*s rocking horse that I adored....I eventually found a wonderfully reasonable substitute 40 years later.
