At 1926/1930 Harrison Avenue the Superintendent used to let Nick stay in one of the basement spaces rent free in exchange for Nick doing chores around the building like putting the garbage out on collection days, shoveling snow. The supts wife would also provide dinner for Nick which i knew because i was friends with the supts. kids.Nick was a guy in his thirties had a bad abscess of his foot and walked with a limp as a result. Nick always had a pint of his drink of choice or whatever was available i guess. From time to time he would disappear for long term hospital stays and rehab and would return to the block looking great. Unfortunately it wasn't long before he returned to drinking. Sad how sometimes the older kids would sometimes taunt him and throw snowballs at him for fun. I often wondered what brought Nick to that stage in his life and whatever became of him although I'm pretty sure I know the answer.
