For displaced, misplaced, and nostalgic ex-Bronxites

Posted by Mike L on Friday, October 20th 2023: We used to go from Parkchester to James Monroe via the bus that ran on Westchester Avenue under the elevated tracks. Sometimes, we sat in the back and smoked. Even though we ducked our heads down below the seat, the driver could see through his rear view mirror smoke rising, as if from little hidden campfires. Sometimes, we were just told to put out the cigarettes. Once, he stopped the bus and wouldn't move until we did. Did this happen to you on other bus routes, somewhere else in the old Bronx?
