We weren't the wealthiest but if we were I doubt that it would have made a difference in our character or what became of us as adults. There was plenty of emotional stability and support (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles nearby and all were nice people). Neighborhood wasn't real fancy but who knew or cared and best of all it was safe at any hour. Friends were all in the same boat and we were happy playing in the schoolyard, nearby parks, street games and socializing.
