My father's 2 sisters and a brother had apartments with sunken floors. Two were on Crugar Ave in the Pelham Bay area East of Bronx Park. The other was on Kingsbridge Road to the west of Poe Park. Not only were they sunken but they had parquet floors. I visited them only a few times and it made a big impression on me since we had linoleum flooring with scratches and bumps. I thought my relatives, although nice to me, were very wealthy and uppity. We lived close to Tremont Ave and Southern blvd not as nice as those other areas. However from what I could tell there was much more stickball going on in my area which was more important than sunken and Parquet floors. Hahaha.
