PS 28 - 6th grade- 1952. All the classrooms were basically set up the same way. We had "take cover" drills, our teacher Mrs. Hochman would suddenly shout out - take cover and we had to squeeze under the fold up seats facing away from the windows.

Once a week, a large table radio was brought into our room and we listened to radio station WQXR. It was our introduction to classical music. Near the end of the term all the 6th grade classes were brought together in the auditorium and given a test. They played parts of the music we heard on 78 rpm records and we had to write down the name and composer of each. One of our favorites which most of us knew, was the Finale of the William Tell Overture by Rossini. We knew it as "The Lone Ranger Music". I think there were some kids who actually wrote that down. (LOL)
