My parents worked. Neither had great salaries (Mom worked in Alexanders).....but my dad belonged to a
union and that became very important after he retired and for my mom after he died.
Our rent was pretty much what everyone else's rent was. I never felt poor...I felt privileged
Like you, John, I lived in a building (actually two buildings attached) and had lots of friends.
