Does anyone remember the "Umbrella Man" who worked the neighborhoods in the Williamsbridge section in the 60s? He had a hand cart that he pushed through the streets, ringing a bell located on the side of the cart. He fixed umbrellas, sharpened garden tools, fixed manual lawn mowers and sharpened their blades, and I think even fixed sewing machines. You could hear that bell several blocks away and would run to get any items that needed fixing.
