Hi Barbara, I'm the guy that has lived in Bay Ridge for the last 25 years and I lived in the Tremont/University area until I was 19 years old. I believe the dynamics of Bronx neighborhoods changed so rapidly that people moved further and further north, starting in the 50s; eventually all points south and west of New York seemed like a better option for them and their families. Basically, we got a head start on relocation and we are nostalgic about "The Old Neighborhood." The news papers refer to it as White Flight, but many of my Black and Hispanic friends, whom I still keep in touch with, also experienced the deterioration of neighborhood living and they too fled for the same reasons that everyone else did. Brooklyn had, and still has, an entirely different dynamic. Not only Brooklyn itself being much larger than the Bronx, so are its neighborhoods, and they changed much more gradually. Here they are more nostalgic about our their youth, as are we all, and no doubt other boroughs have seen change, but none to the extent that the Bronx has. It's only my opinion, but in sum and substance I believe Bronxites have spread out across the country for a greater period of time and the Bronx Board gives us the opportunity to visit a time and a place "Gone With The Wind."
