I'm 75, I moved to Westchester when I was 30, got married at 50 and moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The vast majority of people here have had the same neighborhood experience that we had back in the day; from Egg-Creams, the games we played in our youth to the life long friendships we forged in our schoolyards etc. The difference is that to a great extent that neighborhood feeling, although having evolved with the times, is still very much alive out here. It might be hard to believe but there are still quite a few people in their 80s that live only a few blocks from where they were brought up, and they too love to talk about the old neighborhood. When I listen to them, and my contemporaries and I feel like they were raised in the Bronx. I often remind them how lucky they are to have so many close friends living in proximity to each other, and how lucky I am to have found a neighborhood that is still safe, and has dozens of young working class, professional, groups to keep traditions alive. However, I still miss the Bronx.
