My husband and I lived at 154th Street and 71st Avenue which was across the street from what I believe were apartment buildings for electrical union employees.
The Wainright's store was located in the parking lot behind our apartments. We moved to Long Island in 1972 and moved back to Manhattan in 1997. I've been here since. Riverdale after the pandemic started
From the age you listed in your post, I believe you may be my sister's age. Her name before marriage was Barbara Thomas. Perhaps your wife remembers her.
