I left the Bronx two times. The first was to Queens in 1955 when my parents bought an affordable cooperative apartment in Flushing overlooking the campus of Queens College. I was 16 years old at the time. We had moved from a beautiful apartment on Barnes Avenue in a very nice Pelham Parkway neighborhood. We would have remained there, but the rent in our new apartment building (we lived there for three years) got too high. After living in Flushing (Kew Gardens Hills section), I moved back to The Bronx when I got married in July 1965. What is funny is that I met my Bronx wife in Manhattan while I was living in Queens! (She grew up on Sedgwick Avenue in Kingsbridge Heights). Following our wedding, we moved into a new high-rise apartment building (Orloff Towers) on Bailey Avenue in Kingsbridge. We lived there for four years, until we decided to move to our present home on Long Island following the birth of our older son. I am happy to say that when I left the Bronx twice, BOTH neighborhoods where I lived were desirable. Reference ID: BX90970
