Hi Saul.Living on Bryant Ave., I too was 3 blocks away. Feeding the critters was a joy for me.Peanuts and a small box of sugar cubes was what I used.Remember the zoo's critter food machines,5 cents got you a bag of weird little pellets .The critters never seemed to like them.I guess it was kinda like school lunch(UGH).Those days,paydays were only on the weekend.The zoo also allowed the Peacocks to fly(sort of) out of their area. They too"Grubbed" a snack from the people.Remember how the goats and deer would come charging down a small rocky hill ( near theBoston/ West Farms entrance) when people fed them.Now a days ,living in A Psycho world, all that is gone. Long live the Bronx Zoo
