My building was 1934 Harrison Avenue which was a 5 story walkup. Back in 1984 long after our family moved the building had been taken over by NYC Housing Preservation Department. The building was cleared of all tenants for a top to bottom renovation. I'd persuaded the security guard at the building construction site to let me in for old times sake to visit the apartment of my youth. Part of the renovation included installation of an elevator for the new returning residents which was never required for buildings under 6 stories when I lived there. Got to tour our old apartment which was gutted, but in my mind I'd pictured everything the way it was many years before. Looking down from the roof to the street I could see myself and all my friends playing stickball, hearing laughter. Very eerie and surreal but great memories just the same.
