I agree with you that our great Bronx historical sites seem to go unnoticed by politicians, but in reality it is really the citizens that are showing no interest in these landmarks. Look at this great posting of yours alone, Only Sammy responded!
That is what is sad. During the 1930's Bronx politicians with help from local historians designated many spots with memorials & plaques...some of which have been vandalized. Some are in bad neighborhoods, and others are hard to access.
In contemporary times, John McNamara and Bill Twomey took the lead in keeping Bronx history alive & documented! To me, they were the last of the Mohicans! If you and Sammy are interested, I would be happy to hook up with you both to explore the redoubt at Gun Hill. It is a great historical landmark within a historical landmark!
