How many of our BB members were around or remember the great Blizzard of Dec 26, 1947, the day after Christmas. It was the greatest blizzard in New York since the Blizzard of 1888 where many people died because they couldn't get to the store for food. All the 'El trains were snowbound before there were subways, so people couldn't get around if there were emergencies. hence the acceleration of building subways.
Our street was blocked for a week but we could walk to the corner where the shops were because the main streets were reasonably cleared. We always regretted that the storm came during the Christmas Holiday so we got cheated by not getting time off from school
