Not just the Bronx stores, but there was a place in lower Manhattan that sold new in the box WW2 ARC radios that were fun to convert for hobby use. $5 got me a radio still wrapped in burlap with a protectant for the silver coils inside. The radio was USN (with anchor) dated 1944 and looked as new as the day it was boxed. I got it in 1980.
