JEROME AVENUE = A BIG NAME CHANGE
If you go down Jerome Ave to the Macombs Dam Bridge and you look back and up on the superstructure of the bridge you see that it reads CENTRAL BRIDGE, And if you follow Jerome Avenue north to where it goes into Yonkers you'll find that the name changes to CENTRAL AVE.
The reason for this is that Jerome Avenue was originally called CENTRAL AVENUE since it was the center of The BRONX at a time when The Bronx only went from rivver to river HUDSON RIVER to The Bronx River.
