I grew up on Giles Place – anyone know where that is? - in the thirties, and when I learned to read (1935) my passion was reading the left hand front page column of the Bronx Home News (anyone remember that?) The column was a recap of the local stories of the day, and I read about Bronx things happening on streets I'd never see or know about except in my imagination. I particularly remember the absolutely exotic (for me) “Zarega” Avenue, wondering where it was and what went on there. Years and years later, when I could drive, I actually found Zarega Avenue and was so relieved to find it pretty much like all the other Bronx Streets I had found in my explorations. I'm 91 years young but I still get my jollies when I can nail a “Mystery Photo.”
