My family lived on the 5th floor just below the roof landing. During the 60's It wasnt uncommon to find junkies sleeping on the roof landings or even underneath the steps in the lobby. I ocassionally have a haunting dream of trying to get into my apartment worried that someone was up on the landing. In a few of these dreams I was older and confronted these people on the landing and out on the roof itself. There was a creep named Carmen from the connecting building who used our roof to peep into peoples windows across Burnside Avenue with binoculars. My parents would call the police and as soon as the creep saw a patrol car enter Harrison Avenue the wrong way he knew they were there for him and would race across the roof and back to his apt.
