T.B. I was in the 8th grade...read the newspaper The Mirror They had a shut-in column. I started
writing to someone who was in Valhalla NY in a sanitarium for TB patients. They said after three
months I could visit him

I skipped school to see him...every Wednesday when the principal or assistant principal sent for me.
He asked me who wrote the notes that I was sick. I said "my mother" and from behind me came a
familiar voice 'I DID NOT". It was my mother....yikes....I got suspended for a while and grounded.
don't know if it was a major TB outbreak or not - about 1956"
