OH ME TOO!! (JHS 135) I hated Home Ec - I would chew match sticks, lean out the window to watch the softball games in the schoolyard, eat everyone else's food (I'd ask first) and get yelled at by the Teacher, Mrs. Weiner (honest -- Weiner - she'd say "It's WINER not WEEENER")
My other classrooms overlooked the junkyard on WP Road - it was FULL of OLD cars that the junkyard guy had painted Subway girder Orange to keep from rusting. One day I helped rescue a little kitten whose mama had been killed by the junkyard dog.......
I was always building things. Played lots of sports -- but because I was a pink person I could never tryout for the Babe Ruth Little Leagues right down the street from me-- that made me so SAD!!! But now, haha I bet I can STILL play better than those guys who were my age!!!
When I graduated from HS I checked out a book on Automotive Mechanics and went to town with that. I helped get my Mom's 68 Camaro hopped up with Koni, Hurst and Corvette components -- my first car was a British race car barely legal --- heh heh -- and today I still have the 73 Chevy hot rod I customized back in 1973. She's garaged a block away from a woman mechanic who works on cars-- ever see someone literally tear apart a Hemi engine and put it back together like new? She does.
Oh man -- those 1959 BEAUTIES that glided down Pelham Parkway past my windows when i as a kid-- when I die and go to Heaven and I see G-d, I will look around, and tell Hir "Hmmm-- I've BEEN here already, in the Bronx!!!"
