Hi, Diane!

You may very well have had family living in what would become "The Bronx" if they were there between 1874 and 1895 when the lower villages of Westchester County were annexed by New York City and called "The Great North Side". Today`s geographical West Bronx (west of The Bronx River) became part of New York City`s Annexed District in 1874. Today`s geographical East Bronx (east of The Bronx River) was still part of Westchester County until 1895 when it was added to the Annexed District, thus forming "The Great North Side". Three years later, in 1898, The Great North Side`s name was changed to "THE BRONX"!

Many thanks, Diane, for sharing all your wonderful "ancestral" information with us!
