To me, a turning point in weather broadcasting was the blizzard of 69'. I am sure you recall that because you were already back home from Nam' for a few years.
If memory serves me correctly, the national weather bureau (NWB) had predicted a severe snow storm/blizzard, but every one else just had it as an insignificant snow event. More importantly, no one gave much credence to NWB at the time. Needless to say, I seem to recall that was when NWB earned respect & changed the way weather was foretasted & reported.
