Was going through old boxes that I have moved with many times and came up the old Bronx phone books from 62-63. Boy was life different every exchange was named KIngsbridge,TUlip, TRemont,DAvis,OLinville just to name a few.
We lived on message units 75 per month, a local call was one unit ans as you went further they added up. To call the Rickaways was a 6 unit call.
No long distance but if you wanted to call New Jersey you dialed 11. How times have changed. Remember NYC had one area code 212!
Old dial phones in black only.
Amazing how far we have come.. It is funny remembering all this and after college I went to work for the original AT&T.
