As a boy in the 1930's & 1940's I used to fish the Harlem river with my father at the foot of Lincoln Ave. My father could catch fish in a desert. We caught mostly eels and a small perch like fish called a tommy cod. There was an occasional flounder and in the winter the best catch of all a small striped bass.At that time the Harlem was heavilly polluted.
