This was taken in 1937, looking east along East 166th Street
from Forest Avenue. You can see Morris High School on the right,
just past Jackson Avenue. All the buildings on the left were
razed in 1949 as part of a slum clearance to make way for the
Forest Houses Project.

Taken from Walton Avenue, this was East 167th Street looking up
the hill towards the Grand Concourse. That Zion kosher deli was
one of three in the immediate neighborhood, all within 2 blocks of
each other.
