Old Kitchen Artifacts

We had a dumbwaiter in our kitchen that I was told used to ferry garbage down to the basement before I was born. Under the kitchen window was a cabinet that my mother called a potato bin. We kept used paper grocery bags in it. There was a box on the wall behind our stove that used to hold matches for lighting the burner before it was updated to use a pilot light. And finally there were two mysterious metal plates on one wall. Apparently there used to be candle sconces there long before we moved in that had been removed.
