While getting ready to host Thanksgiving dinner next week, my wife pulled out a small bowl from the back of our closet and asked me where did we get this. It was actually from my parents apartment in the Bronx that my mother got from the A&P on 167th St, probably in the late 50s. I think it was called melmac and a different part of the place setting was sold each week for a very low price. She bought a lot of that stuff and we used it every day of my childhood. Now it's about 70 years old and still in good shape. I wonder if anything made today could boast the same longevity.
