Unlike many of the other respondents, I left the Bronx on September 8, 1947 to begin studies to become a priest, an endeavor I eventually abandoned for a totally different life style, but now seventy five years later, I have only the Bronx to call “my home town” after a lifetime at sea and an extraordinary list of “exotic” residences. Those of you who either remained or continue to live close-by cannot appreciate the fact that there are folks like myself to whom Loew’s Paradise and Krum’s ice-cream shop and the Marble Hill theater and Van Cortland Park and good old (now) Cardinal Hayes School can be remembered fondly without the warts and blemishes they may have accumulated over three-quarters of a century.
