Parkchester elevators were "Otis" elevators and were fine when they were operational, but they went out of commission far to often. It wasn't unusual to come back from shopping and see the guys with the trouble light and the elevator suspended between floor for repair. That's when you began your climb with bags of groceries. In my case, it was up to the fifth floor in a seven story building. I used to wonder how those in the thirteen story buildings managed when their elevators malfunctioned. These days, with more advanced technology, I imagine that their are far fewer breakdowns.
