As Time Goes By

I have a photo of my Dad and nine-year old me standing on the curb of the Concourse watching the 1938 “Decoration Day” parade as the contingent (about ten of them it looks like) of the “Grand Army of the Republic” came by. These oldsters were Civil War veterans and that year the Civil War would have been over 73 years. Boy, were they old! Yesterday, miles and years away from the Concourse, I stood with my grand daughter and watched World War II vets come by and to me they weren’t “old” at all...but I had to realize that these guys were five years older than the Civil War vets I had seen as a kid.
