I grew up between Bainbridge & Gun Hill Rd. Most famous landmark hands down in my neck of the Bronx is the Valentine-Varian House. 2cd oldest homestead in the Bronx, built by Isaac Valentine in 1758. Valentine was a blacksmith, and built the home along the Post Road (aka the road to Williams Bridge, or the Road to Kings Bridge, depending upon which way you were travelling)! I was there when the house was moved across Bainbridge to its current location in 1965. No, Washington never slept there, but most likely Gen. Heath did for a brief time during his siege of Ft. Independence!
