I was about the same age, 9 years old on Dec 7,1941. Also collected old newspapers. 100 pounds got me a free pass to the Vogue movie theater.Between radio news, newspapers, current events in school, conversations among the adults, I seemed to know every campaign and battle. Also learned
Geography--every country in Europe and many Pacific islands. My father was working construction in Virginia at the time. He and a crew were detached to the White House. They constructed a wooden floor in the basement. The basement became a War Room and FDR needed a wooden floor as opposed to the cement floor. I had an uncle who, Merchant Marine veteran, was in Miami at the time. He got a job as a night watchman in a ship yard and one evening caught a saboteur. WW2 touched everybody, whether physical or mental.
