Bad Halloween behavior in the Bronx

Now that another Halloween is coming up, I recall some bad Halloween behavior in the Bronx of the Fifties. The worst 'trick' I can remember was actually quite common amongst...who else? Boys! They would grind up one of those giant thick pieces of chalk, dump the powder in a sock and tie a knot in it. Then,(remember I saw 'others' doing this, not myself) they would proceed to whack girls on the back with it. The result was a white chalk stain on a dark coat that would probably need laundering or dry cleaning to be thoroughly removed. Very bad behavior. Does anyone recall this
kind of activity amongst...who else? Boys!
