If you were around 70 yrs ago, do you remember where or what you were doing when you heard Bobby Thompson's Historic Home Run "Shot Heard Around the World" in 1951, against the Dodgers? I was listening to the ballgame (we had no TV until November of that year) when my mother sent me out on an errand. On the way back from the store, I heard this tremendous roar coming from the buildings in the block, even with I believe most windows were closed. Now mind you, I lived less than a mile from Yankee stadium, so practically everyone was a Yankee fan except me and one or two other kids on the block. They all cheered for the Giants, I guess they hated the Dodgers more than the Giants. None of the other kids knew that we were Giants fan. We would have clandestine meetings and pretend we were Yankee fans whenever that subject was mentioned. I was ecstatic when I heard that one of the "big kids" was a Giant fan. Bottom line, I never got to hear "The Shot Heard Around The World" live, or the instant it actually happened.
