A day would not be long enough. Get off the PPkway El. Walk down those stairs. Walk under the el and YELL happily as loud as I could when the train went overhead. Visit my Nonna's building where I grew up 615 PelhamParkway. Wave to that living room window. Walk ito the park were I used to play baseball, pull out my bat and ball from my satchel and hit a few ones!!!
Then Walk past the place where my beloved Pee Wee lived and died...(sigh).... and salute her and ALL the stray kitties who lived there for more than 50 years. Then slowly walk by 815 Pelham PArkway (I lived there from 4 to 7) and then the Institute for the Blind where I used to go past so many times on my favorite walks with Daddy.
Walk to the #12 bus stop under the El -- look at all the families making new memories in that nabe. Get off at the Botanical Gardens, looking for the ghost of my beloved Nonno Giuseppe who, dressed nattily in suit and tie, would sit on the steps near the Hauptman even though he was dying from the residual effects of being gassed in WWI (I never met him but he came to me in a dream once - how I would have loved to become his car mechanic horse riding dog walkin buddy!)
Then I'd go to the Bronx Zoo -- my beloved Black Leopard friend "Girlie" died in 2018 but there are so many beautiful memories there from the time that I was 4.
Then Id go to ARthur Avenue and have a biiig slice at Full Moon Pizza and then a lemon Ice (but not at the place where the lady cursed me out once becuz it was raining and I didnt want to bring my lemon ice outside in the rain). Then I would find an acceptable substitue for Colavolpe's and get a LEMON ice!!! And a tortoni Ice. And a box full of Italian Pastries. And then to a Deli for a Provolon'! THEN I would get two sturdy people to drag me back to the #12 bus stop so I could go back to the El and go to Penn Station and eat my Italian Pastries onthe train back to where I reside now. No I have not forgotten YANKEE STADIUM!! BUt they won't let you go in carrying a box of Italian pastries. So as Arnie would say in the Terminator... "THAT is a story for another time". I'll be back, G-d willing!
