My and my sisters attended St. Jerome School and Church in late 1950's. Sadly, St Jerome School closed in 2013. The parish was established in 1869 by the Rev. John J. Hughes to serve Irish and German immigrants.[3][4] A combined school and church building was dedicated on June 19, 1870. School closed because families in the neighborhood no longer could afford to send their children to private school. There was a time a family only had one income earner, less taxes then, and could still have enough income to send their children to Catholic School. Today, the neighborhood has slide into low income family dependent on welfare.
