West Farms Village is listed in the "Old Bronx Names" section of John McNamara`s book, "History In Asphalt". He writes: "WEST FARMS VILLAGE..This was a separate township until it was annexed to New York City in 1874. In the 1840s, the town limits took in all Morrisania and Fordham".
We could conclude that the Village of West Farms was just ONE part of the Township (Town) of West Farms until 1874 when the cemetery`s neighborhood`s name became simply "West Farms". Glad you solved the "similar sounding name" mystery!
